Class. This ship and Cosmao were ordered in 10.56 as 400nhp corvettes of an improved Phlégéton type. Plans by Vésignié for Dupleix were approved at the same time. Her machinery was ordered in 3.58 and its installation was completed in 12.61

Class. The origins of this ship were the same as for Dupleix except that she was designed by Courbebaisse. Her machinery installation was also completed in 12.61. Decrès, begun in 1861, was built to the same plans.
