Class. These ships were built as
Gironde and
Garonne for a Bordeaux-Havre steam packet line being established by Inigo Expeleta & Cie.
Gironde made the first sailing on the new line on 6.2.33 and
Garonne followed on 21.3.33. The enterprise evidently failed almost immediately, for on 21.8.33 the Minister of Marine approved a contract for the purchase of the two ships, which were commissioned 2.34.
Disposals. Eclaireur was lost on the Algerian coast. The engines of
Ramier were condemned in 1847. Her hull became a service craft which was renamed
Rameur before 1865, then
Lighter No.3, and BU 1878 at Cherbourg.
