Barges Wellesley, Jonesport, and Cutler (Design 1067)
Three Design 1067 barges on the ways at the Machias Ship Construction Co., Machias, ME, during the winter of 1918-1919. They are Wellesley ex Lubec, Jonesport ex Cutler, and Cutler ex Jonesport (EFC Hulls 2323-2325 respectively). The latter two swapped names on 28 February 1919. A fourth, Larrabee, was cancelled on 29 October 1918. They were the yard's only EFC order. (NHHC: NH 43183) (Click photo to enlarge)

Barge Wellesley (Design 1067)
Barge New Meadows (Design 1067, Hull 2335)

On the ways at Kelley, Spear & Co., Bath, Maine, in 1919. This yard received a contract for one Ferris Design 1001 ship (Columbine) followed by an order for six Design 1067 barges. This post card may show the yard after Columbine and the first of the barges, Winnegance, had been launched. Winnegance was launched on 31 July 1919 and delivered only eight days later and New Meadows was launched on 9 September 1919 and delivered nine days later. The vessels in frame are probably two of the four barges cancelled on 29 October 1918. It is possible that the card shows Winnegance. The four masts, if authentic, were not standard for this type, although they could have been fitted as in the abortive Design 1069 with only minor changes in hatch spacing.
