USS Elinor, ex S.S. General de Castelnau (Yard no. 81) At her builder's yard on 22 March 1918, two days after her delivery to the EFC and commissioning in the Navy. She was decommissioned on 26 April 1919. She was the first ship of this type to be ordered by the French and was not refrigerated. See her WWI page. USS Luella, ex S.S. War Whale (Yard no. 82) Probably shown around the time of her delivery to the EFC on 31 May 1918 and commissioning in the Navy on 1 June 1918. She was the first ship of this type to be ordered by the British and she was also the first of the group to have refrigerated cargo holds. She was decommissioned on 26 September 1919. S.S. Polar Sea, ex Warrenton (Yard no. 86) This ship was a variant of Luella, above, with a wartime rig in which the tall masts were replaced by short kingpost pairs and a light mast was stepped near the stack. She was designated as of 11 April 1918 to be turned over to the Navy, was renamed around 6 June 1918, assigned an armament of 1-6"/50 and 1-6pdr guns on 24 June 1918, delivered to the EFC on 30 August 1918, inspected by the Navy at Baltimore on the same date, and commissioned at New York on 23 October 1918. Polar Land (Yard no. 87) This ship was designated around 12 July 1918 to be taken over by the Navy, delivered to the EFC on 31 October 1918, taken over by the Navy at Baltimore on 3 November 1918, assigned 1-4"/50 and 1-3"/50 guns and commissioned on 5 November 1918, and inspected on 12 November 1918. USS North Pole (Yard no. 83) As of July 1918 this ship was expected to be completed in August, but she was only delivered to the EFC on 31 December 1918 and to the Navy at Baltimore on 10 January 1919. She was commissioned the next day and was inspected by the Navy at Baltimore on 13 January 1919. She was decommissioned on 14 April 1919. She was delivered to the EFC on 30 November 1918, commissioned at Baltimore on 3 December 1918, and inspected there on 9 December 1918. She was decommissioned on 10 March 1919. At this time the ship was being operated commercially for the Shipping Board by the Cosmopolitan Shipping Co. of New York. She had been delivered to the EFC and inspected by the Navy on 29 November 1918, commissioned on 2 December 1918, and decommissioned and returned to the Shipping Board on 12 May 1919.
