S.S. Sagaland, later Mount Shasta (Yard no. 112)

On a trial trip on 30 November 1917 shortly before completion. She was built for Richard Amlie, Haugesund, Norway.

S.S. Sagaland, later Mount Shasta (Yard no. 112)

This ship was inspected by the Navy on 22 October 1917 while under construction. This photo is from the back of the ship's Navy inspection data card, but a note on the card dated 3 December 1917 states that no photo was requested and this one, still showing the name Sagaland, was added later. The ship was operated by the Shipping Board until she was taken over by the Navy and commissioned at Baltimore on 24 August 1918, having been renamed in the meantime.
