Maritime Commission Contracts, 1937-1945




The C3-S-A2 freighter Sea Sturgeon (MC hull 1547) returning to San Francisco after World War II with homeward-bound servicemen. She was built by the Western Pipe and Steel Co. of San Francisco under Contract MCc 13172 of 31 December 1942 and ordered completed as a troop transport under the MC's Military Program on 15 February 1944. This portion of the Shipscribe web site contains five tables containing data on all the contracts let for construction of standard-design merchant ship during World War II by the United States Maritime Commission. Five of the tables contain the same data, the difference being in the way they are sorted. Introduction and Key to Maritime Commission Contract Tables


These contracts with the construction dates of individual ships were listed in U.S. Maritime Commission, Construction Division, "Permanent Report of Completed Ship Construction Contracts, Report B1." The postwar program was documented through 1976 in U.S. Maritime Administration, "Shipbuilding Progress Report, Permanent Report of Completed Ship Construction Contracts" dated 1 January 1977.
