Photo #: S-511-18 "6-inch Cruiser Study ... Scheme 2" Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during an examination of light cruiser designs with the same gun armament as the Cleveland (CL-55) class, but with greater speed and improved protection. This plan, dated 28 July 1940, is for a 13,200-ton (standard displacement) ship, 680-feet long, with aircraft facilities located amidships. It represented an effort to control weights and improve stability by reducing the after hull by one deck. Note that the cruiser has quadruple torpedo tubes amidships, immediately aft of the aircraft catapults. Scale of the original drawing is 1/32" = 1'.
