Photo #: S-511-54-A "Proposed Conversion of CA 68 Class to CV" Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during consideration of aircraft carrier conversions of other types of warships. This plan, dated 4 June 1942 (the date of the Battle of Midway!), depicts a ship generally similar to the later Saipan (CVL-48) class, but with less freeboard.
