At Bangkok in February 1970, alongside her sister OCEANOGRAPHIC-1. These ships, built in West Germany in 1958, are operated by the Hydrographic department.

MPB-1 class (Thai Motor Patrol Boat)

Photographed at Bangkok in February 1970 while on subsidiary service, probably non-naval. This class was built before 1950, perhaps as early as 1935, in Thailand. On the pier is a LCVP from the LST PANGAN (LST-3).

At Bangkok in February 1970. Inboard are a minesweeper of the LADY A (MSC-5) class, a sub chaser of the SARASIN (PC-1) class, and a minelayer of the BANGRACHAN (MMC-1) class.

At Bangkok in February 1970. NAKHA was previously the Japanese HIMAWARI (between 1953 and 1966), ex USS LCSL-102. To starboard is the torpedo boat CHANDHABURI (TB-5) and either PATTANI (TB-3) or SURASDRA (TB-4). To port is the tug RAD (YTL-4), ex USS YTL-340, which was acquired in 1955.

At Bangkok in February 1970. To port is the gunboat NAKHA, ex Japanese HIMAWARI, ex USS LCSL-102; and the tug RAD, Ex USS YTL-340. To starboard is a sister either PATTANI (TB-3) or SURASDRA (TB-4). Note the typical Thai motor boat in the foreground: A car engine mounted above the stern drives a long shaft with the propeller well astern of the boat, sending up a plum of spray.

At Bangkok in February 1970. Outboard are the smaller torpedo boats TAKBAI (#2) and SATTAHIP (#4). The spray in the foreground is from the tour boat from which the photo was taken. Note the difference in the rig of the two smaller ships, also the figureheads on RAYONG and SATTAHIP.
