FY 1942 (ASR-12), 1944 (ASR 19-20). Construction of these vessels as fleet tugs of the NAVAJO (AT-64) class was directed by SecNav on 16 Feb 42 (ASR-12) and by the Auxiliary Vessels Board on 11 Jun 43 (ASR 19-20). CHETCO (AT-99) was reclassified ASR-12 and renamed PENGUIN on 23 Sep 43. The reclassification of ATF 164-165 to ASR 19-20 was recommended on 7 Nov 45 and approved on 13 Nov 45. They received new names on 5 Dec 45. ASR-12 was of the variant of the NAVAJO class that lacked a smokestack (listed here as the AT-99 class) while the other two were of the final NAVAJO class variant that had a short stack with a large cap (listed here as the AT-148 class).

Shibley, Houston, Tex., for scrapping 13 Jul 71, but he converted vessel to salvage tug PERCHERON for his Panamanian firm, Shibley Boats. This firm renamed her DONA ROSA MARIA in 1985 and deleted her in 1999. |
