S.S. Tasco (American Salvage Tug, 1907).
Served as USS Tasco (SP-502) in 1917-1919

Tasco, a 319 gross ton steam salvage tug, was built at New London, Connecticut, in 1907. Reported as a "Roomy, heavy built boat formerly used for wrecking purposes", she was ordered taken over for World War I Naval service in August 1917 and placed in commission late in September as USS Tasco (SP-502). For the rest of the conflict, and for some months following the November 1918 Armistice, she was assigned to the Third Naval District for patrol and possibly minesweeping duties in the vicinity of New York City. Tasco was returned to her owner, J. Shewan of Brooklyn, N.Y., in May 1919.

This vessel, owned by J. Shewan of Brooklyn, New York, was acquired by the Navy for World War I service and placed in commission as USS Tasco (SP-502) on 29 September 1917. She was returned to her owner on 22 May 1919.
